Interestingly, not only does it miss the point that I wanted the UK and not just England, it decided to measure a boat instead of a country :P

I guess the reason is that the length of a country is (more) disputable.

I can see an Ask.com AdWords on that search which shows Ask handing out a better answer:

I also happens when you search for "length of the us".. you get the 182 FT of the HMS America

Someone at Google is obviously following this blog. "Length of the UK" doesn't work any more, but "Length of the US", as rax suggested, still does.
