Google Street view online in Westerlo
Red cars driving down to the streets
05 augustus 2009 | Pieterjan Van Leemputten

Google Street View currently attracts Belgium. This morning was very specific in Westerlo. The small red car accidentally crossed our path. An ideal opportunity for a chase and some pictures.

The Google cars that drive around in Belgium have the Opel brand. At the back there is a big Google sticker, though the car is the best distinguished by the high mast with camera. At the time of shooting this picture the camera was still completely packed.

In recent weeks Street View was seen in Turnhout and Mechelen. Yet it seems that Google is not only mapping large cities. Yesterday we received information from a good source for example, to hear that the car was seen in a community of Aarschot, in a dead-end street. In Alken it was seen also.

When the Belgian images will appear on Google Maps is not known. But Google maps has recently been updated with highly detailed images of Belgium. A number of French border cities, in particular, Lille and Dunkirk, have already Street View images.

BTW In Holland Google Street View is also taking images in the Attraction Park the Efteling with a 'trike' (i.e. a special bike).

WTF?
Street view cars are in Belgium for several months already!
Here in Waterloo, there are also in Brussels, Gand, on the North coast, ... my colleague have seen two times the same car on a highway near Charleroi in a two-month interval, and Flickr is full of Belgium cars (well, there is also cars with Italian plates in this country).

BTW, Google Street View Trike will be in Lille (in France, close to Belgian border) at the end of this month, during 4 days, and I will be there to make an interview and pics.

Finally, Art-One and WebSonic, do you know if Efteling will be the lone place where GG Street View trike will go in the Netherlands, or other places will come?

PS : Street View car in Tullamore!
