i just noticed that on google.de, google.fr, google.it and on all other localzied google domains (not including google.com) a new layout for search results:

(Translate for the search term: "there is enough space on the right ;)")

I've the same since this morning, and yes it's really ugly.

Above 2 comments were made in the forum before this was blogged,

I'm seeing it too, logged in and out.
Really ugly, indeed.

It's live for me signed in and not. I have a huge widescreen monitor and this is the worst mistake I've ever seen Google make! It can't be intentional. Someone forgot to check the new changes at different screen dimensions. Image/news/etc. results weren't change just the web results. I can't believe no one has fixed this yet!

Ditto that I see it here (in the US) – does look strange on a wide-screen display.

I see it too in google.cz. I don't understand what is the purpose of this ugliness. Google should really give an explanation.

Maybe users were clicking on ads more with this layout. Or this can be a preparation for other changes.

I see it too – Safari 4, Mac OS X.

Me too, disgusting. it makes no design sense, unless they centre the entire results page fixed to this width...

Guys, thats not a mistake...

This is a adwords marketing strategy i think.

Because, most of internet users started to buy new tech. laptops and monitors, and they have a wide screen resolution. So, when searchers have a widescreen laptop, they only look the left side of search results. İt's true, adwords side (right of the page) is realy far from left. Mostly i dont look at there, couse of my 1900px resolution...

Google wants us to see the sponsored results more and click them a lot...

i wrote this to my blog... mikro-pc.com/google-arama-sonuclarinin- tasariminda-duzenleme-yapti.html

But isn't moving only the ads enough?

The ads get more and more visually merged with the content. Could it be because Google is making less money than they used to? Probably because common people start to understand the difference sponsored links and actual content.

Of course there is also the economical crisis and the Bing effect ...

I think they want to shorten eye trace and bring eyes to ads visual path because adwords are located right under the results position

If it's not for merging something into the right side, then I believe Umut here is right..

Is there a way of writing a Greasemonkey script to centre the page?

These new results are really, really annoying on larger screens, like 1600 x 1200. It looks ugly, hope they change it back the way it was.

I think you have figured out what will come when this blue is removed???

They might launch in early 2010 the google wave so this space is needed --- LOL
