From today's Reuters article:

"Google (GOOG.O) is investigating whether one or more employees may have helped facilitate a cyber-attack from China that the U.S search giant said it was a victim of in mid-December, two sources told Reuters on Monday.

Well, if one of their computer has been compromized due to the browser of a Google employee, sure he has helped the hacker, but not sure if he even knew that

It would further explain why Google only sent the news of their China decision to China employees during the last minutes before the blog post went live, as it was reported.

<<The sources, who are familiar with the situation, told Reuters that the attack, which targeted people who have access to specific parts of Google networks, may have been facilitated by people working in Google China's office. (...)

Local media, citing unnamed sources, reported that some Google China employees were denied access to internal networks after January 13, while some staff were put on leave and others transferred to different offices in Google's Asia Pacific operations.>>

Are you referring to your own comment in that thread http://blogoscoped.com/forum/82545.html#id82720

... and, if so, to which of its many statements....

OR[*] to Philipp's BG blogpost (not Forum) "What Google Might Do to Be Really Evil/ Good" http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2007-01-11-n61.html

... and, if so, to which of its many bullet points?

[^*] uppercase OR deployed to maintain consistency with Google's search syntax.

Here's the post: http://blogoscoped.com/forum/82545.html#id82720

<< Google could be the victim of political or corporate espionage or sabotage. It’s not unreasonable to assume that numerous governments around the world (US? UK? Russia? China? Iran? Israel?) and leading multinationals already have spies or moles embedded undercover in Google. Some of the agents may be benign, but some may have agendas either bad or good depending on your perspective. Chinese agents, for example, could scan through Gmail and Google Docs and Spreadsheets to look for dissident activity. American agents could be looking for evidence of terrorist cells and operations. >>

It appears Google has concentrated almost exclusively on containing malicious software and other external threats and perhaps overlooked and underestimated "the enemy within": rogue Google employees engaged in subterfuge right under their noses.

Pardon my histrionics, but this reminds me of that scene from the Quantum of Solace when Mr. White boasts "the first thing you should know about us is... we have people everywhere." Then M's own personal bodyguard pulls a pistol and opens fire in the room.

How many "Mr Whites" and "M bodyguards" now work for or with Google? And not just from China but other countries as well?
