Yes, YouTube continues to display the error on the main page, but however it plays video.

Google was down for more than one hour, I've tweeted that in live, you can see pics on Zorgloob.com, including screenshots of Apache errors ;-)

Australia here, still down with the same 'Http/1.1 Service unavailable' error. Some videos work other take you back to that same page. I wonder what has caused this issue.

This problem may have been the result of using faulty DNS translations originating from a server in China. The China server was apparently doing this to censor sites.

I doubt this is the cause of Youtube bug, because with a DNS error you cannot access all pages of a websites, the bug cannot affect the home page only.
