Google says that Flash content is not always shown, "Currently, some videos or Flash content in previews appear as a "puzzle piece" icon or a black square. We're working on rendering these rich content types accurately."

They sometimes say "preview not available" but I wonder, why even show the magnifying glass in the first place for those results?

Philipp In cases where we don't have a screenshot available, we'll try to fetch one on the fly. My guess is that the "not available" messages you're seeing are from where we tried to create it on the fly but weren't able to actually do that for one reason or another.
