How much different is google from those others?
I like this look. I hope they move to something more like that. |

and i still STILL dont have the Yahoo Mail Beta.
I must have been a bad person in a previous life. |
Juhani Polkko | 19 years ago # |
Still waiting for the purple look and that cool Y! logo... |

Brinke,
Don't feel bad about the mail beta, it's still pretty slow. Great features, but still needs a bit of tuning to be worthwhile.
Nice to see Yahoo trying to clean up the page. This one needs a bit of visual depth, but it's a big improvement in terms of clarity and a feeling of space. In any case, websites must continually redefine themselves, or die off. |

very true. the Yahoo main page looks like junk- just waaaay too cluttered. other bad page designs..
foxnews.com espn.com (and it's a brand new redesign!) |

Isn't this just the partnered brand page for Yahoo and Channel 7 in Oz? |
Corsin Camichel | 19 years ago # |
Loren for au.yahoo.com yes, but the screen shows something complete different... I kinda like it |

Very cool new look, I like it a lot. Too bad I still hate Yahoo. |
Jeff | 19 years ago # |
I hate Yahoo....They are not as cool as GOOGLE |
lucas | 19 years ago # |
how is google cool? they are just a public company, as any of the other ones mentioned in this blog, looking to maximize their revenue.
is having almost all products in "beta" for years (or forever) cool in any way? this is google: beta forever
yahoo is the most visited web site in the world, and therefore is "pop"... it gives the masses what the masses want... |

[personal attack removed] Yahoo! is the most visited web site in the entire World. Check their "cool" side:

At least they don't run betas for 3 years as your favorite Google. |

well, personally i don't hate yahoo but i just love google better. google has always seemed to put just a tad more research into developing their products than yahoo has.... giving the public something that isn't out there yet. others just play catch up.
yahoo seems to make everything too damn pretty. girls love to pack their apartment/ house with all kinds of clutter and colorful stuff but guys love it functional and simple. so i guess you either fall into 3 categories... the girls, the girly guys, or the guy guys..... lol |

The screenshot has been sent to me by Brinke, as noted. I figured it was his screenshot. Brinke in a follow-up email told me where he got the image from. I'm removing the image from the post for now. |

/pd: cool article man. thanks.
i really hope they never do away with flickr though. flickr has it's own unique community, look, and feel unlike most other photo sharing sites. |

Google is like Pixar. They've developed a personality. That's why they have so many rapid fans.
Believe it or not, I think Google's popularity has a lot to do with the logo and how they change it around. Really. I think it says "don't take us so seriously."
Tho I may be wrong there. |
/pd | 19 years ago # |
Brinke: i think their culture is more hip.. their developers work 80/20.. thier brand has become a verb. "goggleit" .... its another remake in the likes of a "kodak" moment.. kinda thing.. or lets "xerox it". these a life chnager innovations.. both terms I use are actually brandnames which have become common talk of the generic public...
here take the acid test ...."earth" –
woot woot did you not think of "google earth" eh ?? :)- |

and Y's page looks so bad. like the SF expressway system at 5pm on a holiday weekend.
Let's see; how much can we get on here?
Google just has great design. Less..is more. |

/pd and pacificdave: it's not integration. it's comming update of Yahoo! Photos (http://photos.yahoo.com).
Brinke Guthrie: want less? use http://search.yahoo.com |

I was checking out the new layout again, and it has animated ads. But under the ad there was a link to "stop animation," which stopped both the small ad and the larger ad on the side from animating. Interesting. |

Ya know, I hope someone puts up a Cookie Editor script for this, like enhanced Google. |
