Hmm...I bet it's just a limited test to see how effective the ad is. Plus it's not nearly as bad as most banner ads. Maybe they're getting mad at Ask who are advertising like mad i've noticed.

I've seen a skyscraper (120x600) version of this ad too. I can't remember the website though. (Sorry!)

The strange thing is that I'd usually ignore Flash banner ads on websites, but because I could see the Google logo in the corner of my eye, I actually gave it a few minutes of my attention! Very clever!

I just hope that more companies don't start adding Google-looking logos to their ads to get my attention now I've admitted that... :-)

I just read this post and noticed shortly after on one of my sites a Google ad that was interactive. The ad is a Honda Fit (a new car I guess) ad where you can drag various icons over the car and get info about the car. This is a first for me.

The ad is on the page below.

You can find screen shots of the ad at the links below.

The first screenshot is of the ad when you first see it.

The second screenshot is of me dragging one of the icons over the car.

The third screen shot is what happens when you drop the icon on the car.

Brent usually Google puts an "ads by Gooogle" message below text or graphic ads... this ad might be by somone else...

I want it all! I want Google pop ups and pop unders, I want Google layers on top of websites covering them, I want Google flash animates ads with sound that starts without request, I want Ajax powered Google blink ads (http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2006-04-18.html#n47) I want Google video ads that block or crash your browser if you do not have an accurate player or codec. I want it all! Gimme more! I want every censored result being replaced with an ad for the Chinese companies.

Stop this boring text ads, we want some fun on the web! I want my action packed work days of pre Firefox times back where visiting a commercial website was always a western movie like challenge: Who is faster me clicking away or the ad?

I am wondering why it doesn't say ads by google too. Take a look at my source code. That is a google 300x250 ad. That same ad is also showing up on some of my 160x600 google ads too.

Also, I want ads that look like Windows error dialogs with a mouse cursor on them :)

Sorry, no, that's a doubleclick ad, Brent:

Took that right after I clicked the ad.

Those ads are google ads with an alternate amazon ad instead of showing public service ads. That doesn't look like an amazon ad at all.

Look at my source code on any of those pages and you will see that. I do not use doubleclick.net. I've never heard of them. Those ads are coming from google or amazon when google doesn't have anything to show in that ad space.

Maybe Honda uses doubleclick.net to manage and host their advertisements. Maybe the flash ad is being hosted on doubleclick.net but using Google's advertising to show it. Who knows? It all seems fishy to me.

If you look at the source code of one of my pages with that ad being displayed there is an iframe right at the end of the google ad script. That iframe only shows up when that ad is displayed. I copied that iframe into frontpage and was able to view the source of the webpage inside that iframe. That webpage is indeed from doubleclick.net.

The only thing I can think of is that doubleclick.net is using Google to place their ads for Honda.

AFAIK, sometime later Google "clarified" its anti-graphic ads position in the sense, that they are going to show only text ads *in the Google search results*, but it doesn't relate to the 3rd party AdSensed sites.

Probably you can read their statement as "we don't like graphic ads, but if some webmaster likes them, it's up to him" :)
