Gmail changed to Google Mail !!?iZeitgeist | Tuesday, May 16, 2006 18 years ago • 9,101 views |
Gmail changed their logo and name for my account to Google Mail, it's ugly and I got so used to "Gmail".
I would hate it if this situation continues...
I don't live in Germany,
Can anyone confirm this??
I am so desperate :-(

Ohh I know this,
To my knowledge this applies only to the UK and Germany, Phillipp for instance.
Just today I invited Phillipp in Gmail, he seems like he accepted me, could it be for this reason that my logo changed??
I am worried as much for the logo as for the name. |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
i dont think that inviting Philipp is the reason. where do you live?! |
iZeitgeist | 18 years ago # |
France

|

All is states is that Gmail changed their name in Germay and in the UK |

Have you tried to clear cache and or reconnect to the net? Another thing you could possibly try is to connect to the net via a proxy and see if this makes a difference.
btw...what ISP do you use? since UK and France have a common ISP (Wanadoo) it may be possible that the server you are connected to is located in UK. |

OMG, but this is a really serious situations. We really need to investigate this incident. Gmail users should be happy and enjoy their life. Little things shouldn't worry them. |

OMG, Utils you're right, I reconnected to the net, and guess what:

My ISP is Free (http://www.free.fr)
I guess they must have mess up some IPs or something, anyhow I can now go to sleep peacefully.
Thanks so much
Ionut, thanks for your touch of humour... (You can't imagine what "Gmail" actually represents for me, specially that I am dyslexic and that I hate bad surprises, particularly with my baby gmail)

hmmmm....how do I sign up for Gmail or Google Mail or whatever..lol, it only says sign up with your cellphone.....?? |

Anyone else thing the Google Mail logo looks awful? I live in the UK, so have to put up with it. I think it looks really cluttered. They shouldn't have mail in the coloured letters. Sorry, I'm being picky. |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
Jay: Send someone an email. Anyone on this forum will gladly send you an invite (myself inclued – but I am Google Mail).
I agree with regard to the Google Mail logo looks absolutely rubbish. It even comes up for my Gmail for Domains when it should be the logo that I have chosen! |

Something like this would be much better.... N00/148416244/" rel="nofollow" style="display: inline-block; max-width: 300px; overflow: hidden">http://www.flickr.com/photos/69064343N00/148416244/
Have you emailed them about your Gmail for Domains problem Sam? Seems quite a basic misktake for them to make.
(I've only got Google Mail invites too Jay, sorry. No Gmail for the UK :( ) |
Kirby Witmer | 18 years ago # |
Sam, I got plenty of gmail invites. How many do you want?? |
kenneth03 | 18 years ago # |
I want some Kriby Witmer... Just send me the links at lbagreyhoundz[at]yahoo.com |
Tony Ruscoe | 18 years ago # |
Sam Davyson/dpneal: AFAIK Google Mail invites are the same as a Gmail invites. Which domain is used depends entirely on where the recipient is based – i.e. UK / Germany users will get googlemail.com rather than gmail.com addresses. |
Sam Davyson | 18 years ago # |
Ah that is cool Tony. You can also use proxies to avoid a Google Mail address from within the UK. |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 18 years ago # |
Who actually cares about gmail.com vs googlemail.com. If you have a megooglemail.com address you can receive messages sent to megmail.com. So |
Kirby Witmer | 18 years ago # |
I see... i didn't realize that, Ionut. That's sweet. |

I don't think that people should really be complaining about what Google decides to name their email service. It is a free service and you should be happy that they were nice enough to offer Gmail or Google Mail for free instead of charging $10 a month or whatever. Mike |
iZeitgeist | 18 years ago # |
Acutally I feel I have all the rights to choose or defend the name of a service I am using. It is not because it is free that they can decide whatever they wanted, plus it is not really free since it is ad-supported.
Also, I think people (me included) would not mind paying $10 -or even more- for the best email service ever made to this date.

Thnx Sam, but I used my mom's cell phone to register already :) |
