I just did a search on [Dan Brown] on google and noticed that the Wikipedia hit had a description not found anywhere on the target page:

Dan Brown – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Short description of the author and links to reviews of all his books.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Brown – 52k – 2 Jun 2006 – Cached – Similar pages – Note this

I took my hypothesis one step further and searched for [George W Bush] and [Bill Clinton]. These descriptions seem to have been applied to popular articles, I couldn't find that many, but there are some.

Is this Google Co-op in the works or did I just find some behind the scenes work between Wikipedia and Google?

It is the page's DMOZ description.

Ah, so that's why some descriptions for horrible pages make more sense than the page itself sometimes...
