Yahoo is also doing something similar to Google in their search results... only MSN and Ask are missing out.

I wouldn't mind watching football inside the googleplex and getting paid for it ;)

If you add the World Cup info block to the personalised Google homepage, and then look at the source code for the personalised homepage, it shows that they're data appears to be coming from a Sports Illustrated XML feed.

Hello.

I happen to be in the know (aren't I special):

1) The google onebox feed:
   1a) Is automated
1b) is unrelated to the Sports Illustrated XML feed powering the personalized homepage module.

So, it is automated; and the data provider is not Sports Illustrated – although sports illustrated is responsible for the personalized onebox feed.

Who is the data provider?

I greatly enjoyed this feature on Saturday when we were at a party with no TV allowed. So I sat beside Google and checked every so often – without having to reload the page to see the time advancing on the screen...

The Swedish version is quite wierd.

http://www.google.se/search?q=england+paraguay

First you see the result then a text which says:
"10 jun – Det finns en stor fick på kavajen som är tom nu men brukat ha tre bananer och en penna"

Freely translated:
"10 jun – There is a big pocket on the jacket which now is empty but used to have three bananas and a pencil"

Yahoo was faster than Google in updating the 1:1 for [australia japan] just now...

Jus a note:
Joga.com (orkut "sister" site) put the real-time soccer results in your profile home page and a "add to google" button pointing to "google.com/ig " snippet page.

curiously , the "more info" link point to yahoo's fifa wordcup site
