From the Google Code Blog:
<quote> I've been working with a great team for a while now to produce a new Google Service for the Open Source community </quote>
I wonder what kind of service it could be, perhapes a new coding platform :D

[Moved from "Service for Open Source Community"]
If I told you that Google builds a service for the Open Source community, what would you think it is?
What Google says: http://google-code-updates.blogspot.com/2006/07/new-google-service.html
What G. Rogers speculates (exaggerates): http://blogs.zdnet.com/Google/?p=271 |
More info now available from the convention website:
"Google is launching a brand new service for the Open Source community. Come to this session to hear about this new service. You can also learn more about why we are providing it to the community, how we built it, and how you can best use it."

Should be interesting... |
So the news will probably break online at around 15:00. Is anyone going there? It's gonna be a long night for me, 15:00 in California is 24:00 in Germany :) |
I'm sure someone will find earlier. It can't be a big secret. |
yeah, my ear is close to the the ground on this one.. will post as soon as I have more info.. |
SSD = Secure Source Distribution? |
Or was that already confirmed as something else....hrmm. :-P |
No --its GSA :)- Google Secure Access
|
Searched the web and I found a lot of Greg Stein but nothing really new I think. He does speak about the need of a common repository. So it could be it. But it wat could it be different then from Sourceforge e.g. ? |
Speech has started : project hosting. From what the guys are saying on irc, it's huge! |
An index for (open source?) projects based on subversion (Your Subversion password)? Seriously, not yet very impressed... |

http://code.google.com/hosting/faq.html
What's the new project-hosting service on Google Code? Our new hosting service offers a collaborative development environment that includes:
* Project workspaces with simple membership controls * Version control via Subversion * Issue tracking * Mailing lists at groups.google.com
Who's the service for? All open source developers. If you plan to start an open source project, we encourage you to create a project on Google Code.
So it IS a SourceForge with the Google logo... |
How do I get a copy of my data? At this time, there aren't any import or export features. But look for them as the service matures.
Great! Not gonna use it, sorry |
This has huge potential for Google – I'm glad it was finally announced and my "exaggerations" were correct ;) |
