According to the webmaster FAQ, the prefectching only occurs when the top result has a very high percentage pf clickthroughs. Try an obvious search, like for a company name.

You are right. I saw it for "Microsoft".

I now wonder if this feature makes sense at all. When I search for something like "InsideGoogle" because I forgot the URL, I will click on the result very quickly anyway. So especially for any obvious choices, which seem to be the only ones where this is active, there won't be much time for Google to prefetch this.

I wonder, will Google ever put the "link" code into the head section of the document where it belongs?
