Since the beginning of 2004 we have been rating news sites based on their appearances at Google News.
  
We monitor Google News regularly and in depth. Since the beginning of 2004 we have monitored 1336 major news items there, recording not just appearances on the Google News home page but down to 10 pages deep of listings for individual news items. We have details of around quarter of a million individual site listings so far.
  
We believe that our ratings reflect Google's intent fairly well because we rate based on quantity and quality; that is we note the "relevance order" in which Google News lists the sites for each news item.
