I've been reading Blogoscoped and Google blogs for quite a while and I've glanced through this forum and I haven't found this before. Sorry if it's a dupe :)

I was just doing a search on Google Images and the results came back like this:

As you can see, the URL, size and format is hidden.

When you roll over an image, it gets a blue box and this additional information gets shown:

This is a bit similar to the interface of Live Image Search except from the image doesn't grow in size on hover:

I refreshed the page and it turned back into the old interface.

It seems they've been experimenting with this for a while...

Google highlightes images like live.com(only with FF).

Not for me, I think you're just lucky.

Someone reported this a while ago.

It looks like this test is becoming more popular recently...

That would be awesome. Live Images Search (Interface) is miles ahead (in my opinion) of Google.

I've seen this before (several times) over the last months, and I do notice that it seems to be becoming more popular with Google.

This worries me, because I don't think this is a better interface. Why get rid of all that information by forcing users to mouse over it to view it? I can't even tell which images are from which sites unless I compare each one by moving my mouse over it. In my opinion, this interface would be a move backwards by Google.

Um, Why would anyone want to know where the image is from ?

I also like Live's Bar thingy that lets you resize images, the Vertical Scroll and ofcourse the scratchpad

I do like some of Live's features, though I'm not sure if it would be convenient for Google to include them.

And... why wouldn't you want to know where the image comes from? This upgrade seems to remove functionality from the interface, without a usability improvement. Pretty boxes to highlight the image your mouse is over don't cut it for me; I know where my mouse is, thank you very much.

Google shoud launch a Google Images 2, like the Groups 2...

Sohil, I just used the location today, when searching for pictures of a new TV show. I found pictures hosted on fox.com, and ones on other sites which were less of what I wanted. Plus being able to see the sizes at a glance is huge, since I often need images between the "medium" and "small" groupings that Google creates. The only option for me is to use "All Sizes" and quickly glance at the image sizes for something close to what I want. Making it an extra step adds unnecessary overhead to that.
