How fast is Gmail in uploading attachments? (c.f. http://blogoscoped.com/forum/80913.html) Well let's try it out all together. A quick test (not so scientific though) to find this out... (Read it all first before testing it out, just to be sure everyone does the same thing...)
Our standardized attachment will be: http://www.55fun.com/book.pdf ;-) – 8071 kb following Gmail. (Make sure you have downloaded the book first on your local machine, but I'm sure you all have already a long time ago.)
In Gmail compose a new message. Make an attachment with book.pdf.
Keep your stopwatch ready!!! Press save now & at the same time the stopwatch start button.
Press the stop watch stop button when uploading has finished.
Note the size of your message (should be 8071 kb I hope). Note the upload time needed in secs). Calculate the speed (8071/time needed in secs)
Here are my results: 39 sec – 8071 kb – 260 kbps
Not lightning fast, but not so slow too I suppose...

Hi guys, don't feel like it? |
Isn't the speed a combination of Google's server + your ISP's speed?
The result on my site is 9 minutes 15 seconds, by the way. But I think I did something different then you – I hit "sent". |
