Just curious, how many spam messages does your main Gmail account has at this moment?

I have ... 487!

430 – happens to be a very slow month – I can get up to about 2000 (although it's decreasing a lot lately)

0. I'm fanatical about clearing it out. (I probably wouldn't bother if I greasemonkily hid the spam counter.)

According to the recent post in the Gmail Blog, you should be getting a lot less than you used to:

[put at-character here]Niraj,
That's spam in the inbox, of which I rarely get any. I currently get around 100 spam emails a week (up from about 1 a week in September) all of which are caught.

Annoyingly, Google has caught quite a few of its press releases and marked them as spam as well.

11,795 at the moment. Don't laugh :)

0 – I have a filter that deletes all the messages marked as spam.

481 as of now
I never look at it for false positive.
Its the bad luck of the sender if his/her mail has not reached my inbox :)

Ionut, you trust the Gmail filter that much?!

That is brave – it would be too much for me. While I don't ever check the spam folder out of the blue, I do sometimes check it when I suspect something (like a confirmation mail) accidentally made it into it. And sometimes that does happen.

I check the Trash folder from time to time, but I rarely find something that shouldn't be there.

Ah, that's true, you can still check the trash in those cases. Sounds like a good filter. How do you set up that filter Ionut?

Has the words: is:spam
Do this: Delete it

Thanks for that I wasn't sure where to put the "in:spam" bit :D

This is strange. That's how I tried to set it up before, but then Gmail showed up a warning dialog saying "Warning: Filter searches containing 'label:', 'in:' or 'is:' criteria are not recommended, as these critera will never match incoming mail."

Maybe it's time to ignore Google's alerts :)

yes, i also use Ionut's way since months!
