I've seen this before in a different sense. I put in my user name that I wanted and it was taken and it gave me suggestions that were on the same topic. I forgot what it was but lets just say I put in wiseman and it was taken, it returned suggestions like smartperson or genius. (I never tried this one, I'm just making up an example.) I thought it was very interesting, but I guess it goes along with the whole contextual stuff that Google does.
(Wow. reading this over – it sounds like I'm illiterate. oh well – I guess the truth comes out eventually. :)) |
This isn't anything unique. Yahoo Mail does the same. |
You crashed the S/N feature. It says that it is unable to suggest names at the moment. |
BTW why its showing @googlemail.com ???
I know its the same & doesn't matter but for me its shows @gmail.com only |
for 123456 it shows only one suggestion here

Philipp, in my above post why the @ sign is not replaced by that image |
I asked this before rohit, it's only when the forum thinks it's an email address, since there's a space before, it knew and didn't replace it, i guess... |
Rohit, http://blogoscoped.com/forum/119695.html#id119733 Its showing googlemail.com because Philipp is in Germany. Its probably basing that off of his IP address. Google isn't allowed to use the Gmail name in Germany as there is another company that already owns the rights to it. |
Its the same,so This isn't anything unique. |
It shows @googlemail.com here in UK too and when creating a new account I am given the same extension. Has Google stopped using @gmail.com for new accounts? (although it may still work for older accounts). |
Sorry philipp, but this isn't new.. :/ |
> Has Google stopped using @gmail.com for new accounts?
gmail.com will still work for new accounts but your default address that appears when you send emails will be @googlemail.com – in the UK, Germany and Austria (due to trademark reasons).
> Sorry philipp, but this isn't new.. :/
I don't think Philipp was trying to say it was new... he's simply showing how Gmail comes up with completely random, unrelated usernames if you enter something like 123456. |
For 123456, I get: "separate.sudden.569" etc.
but for a random number such as 568684, I get:
"568684 is not available, but the following usernames are: 5686841 5686846 5686843 5686847"
Any ideas why 123456 returns the names, yet 568684 returns other numbers?
Slightly related, a longer number gives the message "Sorry, usernames of 8 or more characters must include at least one alphabetical character (a-z) ", even though I have just registered 467858gmail.com
Also, the required password strength has changed, I registered my main account with a password length 7 (with symbols etc), but now gmail requires a password length of 8. |
"usernames of 8 or more characters must include at least one alphabetical character (a-z)"
467858 has 6 digits and 6<8. |
Great, I've just made myself look as though I can't read. Looks as if I'm oing to have a great day :p
Thanks Ionut, I sometimes miss things like that, I just skip over it for some reason. |
123456 isn't available: > deep.serious95734 > warm.like.44126044 > boiling.like.4602487 > possible.boiling.34554
654321 isn't available: >equalchief8242942919 >deep.secret.26531
sounds definitely weird. |
<<Sorry philipp, but this isn't new.. :/>>
David You always say that! Whenever you say it I cry inside :P |
always the same... 123456undefined58408 123456u8 123456undefined7 1.u41103561 |
lol James....
I'll try using this sentence less.. :P |
