On Google France (all Data Centers), the first result for "Google Maps" isn't Google Maps website, but a kind of "proxy". http://www.zorgloob.com/images/google-maps-deuxieme.png What do you think about that? Note: maps.google.COM ranks #2, maps.google.FR ranks #10...

Really Weird, why did so many people link to the first page... |
I thought this linking issue is over isn't it? (isn't that Google Bombing or something?) |
"why did so many people link to the first page..." >nobody linked this page (or maybe one, only one).
I don't think it Google Bombing, it's just this proxy has just copied the french google maps (French interface of GMaps), and its content seems to be more easy to read for googlebot than the original google maps (English interface of GMaps, because of javascript redirection that googlebot doesn't understand yet)... |
So it's a " good " thing or a " bad " thing? :P |
well, google doesn't care about a 1000 or 2000 visitors not going on google maps but on this site each day, but I think it's a bad thing because it shows how Google's algorithms could be really bad sometimes: what's the more relevant for you when you search for "google maps"? Google Maps website or a copy of Google Maps? |
Yeah, but you said yourself that it's a french one. I agree it's not the real Google Maps, but maybe for french users, the first result will be more relevant. |
if you are in France or if the language of your browser is set to French, maps.google.com will be automatically displayed in French. And if today Google Maps publish new features, they will not be displayed on the proxy which curently ranks first. |
hé hé, one day later the result has been deleted |
And the first result isn't "maps.google.COM", but "maps.google.FR", with the same snippet the proxy had, although yesterday maps.google.fr didn't have any snippet. |
Well, you do know Google is reading this :) |
Google Maps is the number 1 result for me here in the states when I use Google.com and Google.fr.

Maybe Google should remove proxies from search results. Aren't they duplicates? |
Ionut > you're right, it's a plague, a bane. I just searched something on google : the first result was "original", the 5 following were duplicates crowded of adsenses...
Colin > you do not read my last message ;)
David > I know there are some Googlers who read Zorgloob, it *may* be them who have fixed the result ;) |
