In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Mayer said: There is an interesting Doodle on monday worldwide. (German: "weltweit ein sehr spannendes Doodle")
In the last Google Blog Post:
"In recognition of the global importance of data protection, the U.S. and Canada have joined 27 European countries to celebrate Data Privacy Day 2008 this Monday, January 28th."

Cool logo.
Though, data privacy and Lego...? huh?

um... the lego logo is for the 50th year of the lego brick.

At the same time it is also privacy day!

Oh I wast just going to tell you! I love how fast news run over here :)

Is there some relation between privacy and (lego) bricks? o_O
To construct conscience about data privacy?
(ok, forget it)

Is this the first 3D logo?
It hards weird ilumination and the size of the bricks may not be exact in space. What do you think?
(it's late here! I'll go bed after this post, promise!)

PS: the logo it's made of 55 pieces, without the little man. If it were 50 pieces, then we may have something geek to talk about.

PS2: It remembers me the Code Jam
http://www.google.com/codejam/
(it says they are in beta for this year's competition!)

WHOA... 55 pieces might be reading into it a bit much! :) Either way, good catch. I'm not sure about the first 3d logo as that could also include "sculptures" as well as other designs and/or other but it is similar to codejam. At the same time codejam wasn't Legos as I think back.

I don't think Lego has anything to do with privacy but who knows what the may have up their sleeve? It doesn't seem to be linked yet which is often the case so, maybe there is more to come....

Maybe a translation issue where Mayer was just mentioning this?

No, Marissa said it will be a cool logo on Monday, without mentioning it's about legos, privacy or something else.

Nice logo indeed, why isn't it linked tho?

Yep, Larry especially loves Legos!

"I attriubute a great deal of my understanding and ability with mechanical devices to Legos and similar construction toys." – Larry Page

What a great logo! I think LEGOS brought out the mechanical abilites in many people, including me.

I have enjoyed lego bricks since I first saw them but I was disappointed when a young son put one into my 8-Track player that used to work.
I am now 77 and looking forward to my second childhood with the neat stuff that can now be built with lego.

First Google server wasn't made with "Lego" but with "Duplos" ;-)

Thanks for the information but it's my understanding that Duplo is a version of the Lego brick also made by the Lego.

beussery > Duplo is the "cheaper" version of Lego, bricks are bigger than Lego's because they are intented for baby/children (they can't swallow it). Legos are for (pre-)teenagers and young adults, just as Brin & Page :-)

True but Duplos are Legos.

Was surprised to see this logo on an iGoogle page when the user isn't logged in. I don't think I've seen a special Google logo ever displayed on a non logged in iGoogle page before.

They might well consider this the most important doodle ever! I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lego doodle remain a permanent fixture in iGoogle.

Not many events could top a "Privacy Day"!

Notice anything different about this (besides the typeface.)

Note position of the 'make google your homepage.' it's usually below those three links.
