Today is the first time I've noticed some new ads in Maps – context-sensitive ads long the bottom edge of a map, similar to the "Web Clips" feature in Gmail

[moved from "Sponsored Links at the bottom of Google Maps". Thanks WebSonic.nl!]
How long has Google been displaying Sponsored links at the bottom of the actual map?

[Moved from "Google inserts adsense into maps" – Tony]
Google have begun to put adsense into Google maps! The ads relate to the city being searched for.

In fact these are local business ads, but they are now at the bottom as well as the side. |
Colin, et al: I've seen these ads in Google Maps for about 2 weeks. My searching was USA-based, specifically northern California which may have been a test area before being rolled out elsewhere. They are not intrusive and often seem to relate well to what I'm searching for anyway. As long as Google continues to add non-intrusive ads that help pay the bills, I'm all for it. |
