Same here. Most are very slow or don't open at all (ie News). Even Blogoscoped is running very slowly today. Most other sites seem fine though. Yes, Yahoo, Live, Ask must be loving this. |

no problem here (France) |

Seems fine for me too in the UK. I guess it really is just a subset of users, like they've said on the App Status page for Gmail:
<< We're aware of a problem with Google Mail affecting a small subset of users. The affected users are unable to access Google Mail. We will provide an update by May 14, 2009 6:00:00 PM UTC+1 detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change. *This may also be affecting other services >> |

"a small subset of users" > they say that all the time, even when the bug reaches everybody... |

It's alive again! |

Apparently it's affecting anything going through AT&T, which would explain why nothing works on my T1 but is fine on my mobile.

That may have been the first time I can remember that www.google.com was down – other than an ISP issue. |

Also in Poland. Fortunately, the problem lasted for a short time. |

I'm still having trouble. My Google Talk started working again (I think) after I stopped it and then signed back in. Also Image search started working agin.
but Gmail, Reader, web search and the likes are still the same way – I can't do anything. |

Normal no Brasil. Pelo menos em Juiz de Fora. |

I doubt this is related, but whenever I searched for something this morning it said I was a spammer. It worked after I logged out and then in again though, so it was probably just a cookie issue. |

Romania was affected too. |

TOM –
If Google was slow for them it's possible, and also once it comes up people want to see if it was just them and what the story was. |

Tom, "but HOW people can perform these queries on Google... if Google is down?"
Thats b'coz the Query is being re0-drected to a server that is UP.. even if you local server is down, redirected can still take place..! |

For me, all things Google quit working Tuesday afternoon (GMT – 6) and again this morning (Thursday). Even pages that had Google ads would not load. Then an hour later, things were fine
Location – Idaho, USA Carrier – Quest Could not use Google Earth Google.com searches Google Analytics pages any page with Google Ads on it blogspot.com pages
All other web sites were working great Visited another user across town and saw the same problem

Here's the explanation:
<< An error in one of our systems caused us to direct some of our web traffic through Asia, which created a traffic jam. As a result, about 14% of our users experienced slow services or even interruptions. We've been working hard to make our services ultrafast and "always on," so it's especially embarrassing when a glitch like this one happens. We're very sorry that it happened, and you can be sure that we'll be working even harder to make sure that a similar problem won't happen again. >>

14%? Is that why everyone I know and their brother felt it? |

<< Dmitri Alperovitch, vice president of threat research for McAfee, said that Google this morning attempted to make changes to key Internet routing numbers--known as autonomous system numbers--as part of its ongoing transition from an older networking standard to a newer one called IPv6. An unknown "bug" inside Google's network involving some sort of hardware failure or glitch prevented Internet service providers from finding Google's new ASNs on the Internet--effectively sealing it off from many customers, he said. >>
<< Google has denied that work on the transition to IPv6 is to blame for this morning's outage, but will not specify what was to blame. "This issue is unrelated to any work we are doing in transitioning toward supporting IPv6," a spokesman said. McAfee said it obtained its information from Google on a private mailing list for networking professionals of which Google is a member, but declined to provide a copy of the thread in question. >>
