Google logo in SERP (View post)WebSonic.nl | Saturday, June 27, 2009 15 years ago • 14,710 views |
When surfing on the Dutch version of Google I saw for the first time a smaller Google logo then normal above the search results and more white space at the sides. A screenshot below with a comparison with Google.com results. Anyone else spotted this before?

I have the new design too, but I don't like it. |

Why do you guys bother.. It's just a redesign.. Google will probably turn it back if people complain and if not, Google Search is mainly used for searching stuff and not for looking at nice paddings/margins.. Thereby, a daily user of Google Search is not too picky or at least doesn't pay that much attention to layout, but to the content they're desperately and foremost quickly trying to find. |

I have it too. Looks a bit odd with the small Google logo. But if you look at the images (nav_logo4.png vs. nav_logo6.png) you see a difference of 1317 bytes in size and the new image has much better positioning of all the icons used for the page (no overlaps at all and still a little room for more). |

re: no overlaps at all and still a little room for more
Overlap => overlapped part unusable for background-position => nav_logo4.png was "patched" to add icons without CSS modifications.
Those image maps – the science of art.... |

Another change: SearchWiki icons are displayed next to "similar", "cached".

It has changed for me as well. Actually, I love the new layout better. It brings out the results better to my attention, at least I feel. |

I also have the new layout – just after I updated to Fx 3.5... |

Unfortunately, changes are BAD! I sent out message to Google, because I'm very angry on padding. Now it's very UNCOMFORTABLE to use search results! Google must to add option either to use bigger padding or to not! Google dissapointed me again... We must unite to complain about this shit! |

After staring at the new layout for a few moments i have to say i like it. It makes results more structured and fixed. However the "Google" logo isn't that good at that size. Maybe if they used the "Google-no-shadow-just-colors" logo it would be better.. |

I noticed it from the very first moment I used google with new changes
I don't like it, I found it awkward from the very beginning, I'm not accostumed... prolly is better but at first I was kinda confused, lost!
It was good as it was already there |

I have this new layout too. A little odd looking, but ultimately not much of a difference, especially considering that most of the horizontal space is not used anyway (at least on a widescreen monitor). |

There was no need of such amount of White Space.... |

It feels like being punched with a spike into your eye and turning. |

They also removed the page size in kb attached to each result |

mbegin: I assume we're all parodying the objections to the YouTube channel redesign. |

It seems to be rolling out to everyone. I don't like it, it's like the page is afraid of the edges of the screen. |
Andrew | 15 years ago # |
There's too much space on the left. I suspect they were trying to make better use of the gap on the right, but I don't think this is the right way to go about it. |
Chris | 15 years ago # |
Too much white space, now I have to scroll more. I don't like it. |

I got a SERP with a doodle that obscured part of the search box. |
George R | 15 years ago # |
It is now July 5. The Google search page is no longer showing the July 4 USA Independence Day doodle, but the SERP is still showing it. |

Damn (and a thousand other swear words!!!). I should have realized that its a Google "experiment" ... instead, I freaked out and thought that I had some virus that might be hi-jacking the search results (yeah, seems to be the in thing with viruses / worm – to hijack the search results). I spent the whole day scanning my system with 3 different online virus scanners and, to be on the "safe side" also dumped my free antivirus (the reliable and trustworthy Avira Antivir) for a paid version of nod32 and changed my firewall from ZoneAlarm to Comodo.
Again ... damn you Google!!!!! |
