Is there somebody who has debian/ubuntu installed and can share what these debs actually are: http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/snapshots/chromium-rel-linux-chromeos/28727/ (as I believe these are the files referenced in the post, right?) |
I checked it, it's just a newer version of Google Chrome. |
It might be more than just a newer version of Google Chrome. There is a drop down button to choose from available networks, it's not working though. |
You can also check battery status. I looks exactly like the Google Chrome but with some extra features.
Here are some screenshots. http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/6216/screenshotsem.png

Nice find! |
It seems to be designed for fullscreen view :
The omnibar is reduce in the left-top : http://pix.wefrag.com/i/a/a/3/6/b/th6006563b3f1cef496976e6abb519d3b987.png
I accessed this from the Compact Nav menu : http://pix.wefrag.com/i/d/a/2/1/e/th6006562ec6c8d773e0c8d36896d858fa3a.png

Also I'm wondering what's the icon on the top left which redirect to the google.com short links service will be used for. |
Nice find! These are the first Chrome OS screenshots that I wouldn't call fake, though the really doesn't look googley yet.
So the interface will really just be Chrome with a main menu and a status area. Now the question is, what will the setup under the hood be like? How will they manage to boot into Chrome quickly? |
The top left button will probably trigger the main menu, whatever that may become:
http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/src/chrome/browser/chromeos/main_menu.h?revision=28321&view=markup
Its location currently is http://goto.ext.google.com/crux-home which is a corporate redirect address. Would Crux be the Chrome OS code name?
Techcrunch wonders about the GView tool for viewing PDF documents, but that's just the Google Docs interface as mentioned as http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/this-week-in-search-10909.html It's only implemented for files that are already on the web, so I assume that there will be no local files in Chrome OS. |
So this time Google Chrome OS is no longer a fake? |
Moustafa ZA: Thx for the screenshots, guess I really should sit down again and install ubuntu.
TOMHTML: When was google chrome os a fake then?
But true, it doesn't look really google like at all yet, but to be honest it is kinda looking like I had expected it to look. |

There were some fake screenshots published on lifehacker. http://lifehacker.com/5326377/possible+but+unlikely-chrome-os-screenshots-show-off-ultra+minimal-desktop |

Moustafa: Still that would in no way make the chrome-os itself fake, right? Wonder what the event tonight at 6 will be about, (if they will go through with it) |
