It's probably best, at least in English, to stick to calling it Burma. The Burmese junta changed the English name from Burma to Myanmar in the lates 1980s. It's generally suggested to continue referring to the country as Burma, indicating that you do not recognize the repressive military junta's authority. Neither the British nor American goverments recognize Myanmar as the name. |
Edit: I added "also known as Burma" to the post, hopefully more neutral. |
I like that Phillpp – after all-- my ethinc roots go back to being a "daw sa" : of the Shan tribe :)- |
David, it's generally suggested to still call it Burma? Who suggested it? And is it really general? Here in Southeast Asia, we call the country Myanmar. And various international sports organizations (even the Olympics) call the country Myanmar. Calling it Myanmar does not mean that you support the junta. |
Gmail has never been accessible in Myanmar. |
"Google blocked by google" in iran! here: http://i4.tinypic.com/16azker.png http://i4.tinypic.com/16azklc.png

For the pack it seems logically. Google is bound by american laws not to export technology to Iran (and other countries). I think that law could also be applied in case of the Checkout service...
Too bad for you... |
Theres alot of political clout around the transfer of money, and it takes a long time to weed through it (and alot of laywers). |

It's easy to take for granted freedom. Thankfully, the internet is fluid and flexible and very hard to stop :D |
