Have Google removed the ability to upgrade your picasa web albums storage? I've followed the instructions but can't find anywhere where i can upgrade it.

(they really should change the name of this service)

Looks like it's a NO.

$25, no tax, you will use Google Checkout for this.

Maybe they'll make it free (unlimited storage).

But there's always this

The link to upgrade used to sit at the bottom of that page

I just checked and the upgrade link is there and functioning for me. Could it depend on where you are located? I am in the US.

I think it is a US only service.

Sam, you're right, the link is gone for me

The link still works for me.
Click on "Buy Now", takes me to https://checkout.google.com/buy?o=shoppingcart&shoppingcart=109351362812404&gsessionid=pB_6gLSqxgk

The link is definitely not there for me, and when i visit the URL in the screenshot it takes me to the settings page

odd.

I went through Picasa, clicked on "upgrade strorage" and it led me to this page http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/upgradeStorage?pli=1 which displayed without a problem. The buy it now directed me to the same checkout page as Haochi

I bet it's only showing this link for american users... since checkout doesn't work for any other country anyway

I am an American user...but no show for me. :(

Garett Rogers [PersonRank 10]

Well that's interesting then... why would some people have it and others not?

Is there any correlation between when people signed up and whether they can see the link? Maybe the first people to sign up will be getting a free upgrade?

TonyB [PersonRank 10]

I happened to stumble across Web Albums before it was mentioned on any blogs or websites that I am aware of and got in immediately after registering, so I was definitely one of the first to sign up and I see the "upgrade for $25 link.

Has anyone actually seen where they might get the upgrade free? As far as I can tell, that is only speculation and no one has actually had an account upgraded for free or seen anything from Google that says it will happen.

There is no word on if they will be offering any services for free.

so we can tell for sure that this link is:

-not regionally specific
-not enabled/disabled based on when the user signed up

what other factors could there be?

I can see the link now, but it "fades in and out" and I have to refresh it a couple of times in order to see it (on every fifth attempt).

I think I'll wait to see what Picasa is doing in order for them to inform everyone on what is happening. I would hate to be charged for an upgrade yet not receive any services.

[put at-character here]Darnell Clayton – Same here, it only shows up every few times when you refresh.

Haochi [PersonRank 10]

I think this is like the feature listing on the bottom of Gmail, it's different every time you refresh the page.
http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/4986/untitled2ih.png
but it's hard to explain why it redirects some users to the setting page, not US users?(can't use checkout)

I refreshed my page a LOT of times to see if ic ould get that message back, and I can't get it to appear

I just tried the link that I posted earlier and it led me to my picasa album account settings page...hummmm :-/

NateDawg [PersonRank 10]

it's still listed in the help section

Even though I can now see that link,(rarely) but when I click on it, it takes me back to the setting page.

Interesting, the link is now gone for me as well. The page is very slow to refresh for me currently as well.

I can still use the checkout link the upgrade, if you can't see the link or click on the link it redirect you back to the setting page, try this link

Just checked my account again today as of 4:30 EST I've got my account upgrade link back up http://picasaweb.google.com/topdawgnate/Web/photo#4949109778392875026
and the link http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/upgradeStorage brings me to the checkout screen

TonyB [PersonRank 10]

I see the same thing, NateDawg. I user on Picasa Google groups got a message from Google support indicating the upgrade was only available in the US, but would be available internationally soon. http://groups.google.com/group/picasa/browse_thread/thread/3a6f3d64d9f07183/18d4392e6b0a5310?q=upgrade&rnum=3#18d4392e6b0a5310

This would make sense since there using checkout which is still US based only. Google probably took down the link till they could rework the server code to only display the link for US accounts. Thanks for the link TonyB
