Al tough Gtalk had virtually no features, it always was my fav. client. I mean it's simple. Logs in perfectly unlike Windows Live or Yahoo. Fast and really really stable.

Now this is awesome. Although I'd like to see integration with Search. Your friend suggests something and you have no clue what it is .....

It's about time! Maybe I'll start using it again.

What protocol does it use to file transfer? Is it documented?
I use Miranda-IM client and the filetransfer is not compatible...

when you use multi im messenger it is not possible to inherit some features..
like miranda gaim trillian you can only use the mail, voice and instant chat facility.

Voicemail does not work for me, but it works from my PC with my wife account. So this feature should be separately enabled for individual accounts?!

Gmail chat has been down since yesterday here (West Coast Canada). Anyone else having problem with th Gmail chat?

Looks like it's time to by a pc headset :) . I've been waiting for this feature for a long time. The best part that I like is that you can retreive your messages inside you gmail acount.

It looks like a phone icon has been added to the talk client right next to the mail icon and it appears that it will tell you how many voicemail messages are waiting for you. Clicking on the icon brings you to your gmail inbox with a label:voicemail search.

The contacts list is getting a little Icon cluttered, but it's still remarkably clean.

I think they should maybe have an Advanced Settings option in the settings window.

There seems to be a fair number of people having problems with the file transfering (myself included)... And at the moment there's not much helping information amidst the help files on resolving this. I guess that's why it's in 'testing' phase. ;)

When you click on the green phone icon at the bottom of Gtalk, it opens up directly search on Gmail with the query 'label:voicemail', this hints at an upcoming voicemail feature on Gmail. Also when you try to create a label named 'voicemail', you get the message: "System specific names are not allowed. Please try another name."

I hope encryption is the next new feature, seems like it would be more important than 'Music Status'.

Does anyone know if when you use Google Talk's "Off The Record" feature do they still store the chat session on their servers somewhere?

GTalk uses the same protocol as Jabber.
There is already a file transfer protocol in Jabber which most clients implement.
But the file transfer from Jabber doesn't works well when the users are behind a NAT. So i think google have created their own protocol.
If this protocol were documented, developers could implement it in the alternative clients...

this is sourceforge project... its interpolarable s/w with the msn platform... I wonder why MSN is not going fwd with XMPP protocal sets [rfc 3920!!]

Why is MSFT not adopting to this suite of services in its suite of offering ??

I cant file the file transfer option... if i open a conversation it is not available... Does anybody knows what I should do to transfer files with somebody else via Gtalk ?

You need to make sure your running the testing version for it to work.

Ok guyz pls help me out here...
i cannot use the 'voicemail' feature!! at the end of four rings i cannot even hear the machine's voice saying "pls leave a msg...", instead it jus shows up on the screen that "call is not answered"... n thaz it
n i made sure i installed the testing version n the i even reinstalled it agn n tried it. i doesnt work!
the 'send files' feature doesn't work either.. but i really wanna know abt the 'voicemail' more..

For me the major attraction of Gtalk was the simplicity. I am in the process of downloading it...but how necessary is allowing other people to see what I'm listening to?
