All the links are tied together through the project "caribou", I'm even more sure of it now.
Here what I mean: http://blogoscoped.com/forum/59541.html#id59597

i have it, too .. i like it .. but i would like it more if it was on top of EACH of the services, like when i click to go to picasa, i don't see the navigation bar anymore .. not really that useful and wouldn't get me used to use it, if u know what i mean :)

I see it already... like I said, Google is getting better every day.

But you guys know something, there is a little change, previously the 'more service' took you to the page similar to the 'more' link in Google.com. But now it leads to https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount; the accounts page.

The name Picasa has to go sooner or later. This is Google Photos. No need to complicate life for the user :)

yes i agree philipp, it does need to be changed to google photos. why did they introduce 'picasa web albums' though? (possibly the worst name ever!)

/pd [PersonRank 10]

="(possibly the worst name ever!)"

Yes EVER , Branding is key to components.,.. I would just call it GPhotos!:)-

Nooo. I love the name Picasa. I wonder how Googlers name their kids.

Son and Daughter.

No seriously, they need to come up with a creative name that sticks.

Google Photos is too ... simple.

What no Writely.

Sohil [PersonRank 10]

I see it too.

Me too. It was origninaly just Google, Gmail, and Calender, I think.

David Hetfield [PersonRank 10]

i think /pd is right..
they must stick with it the original brand name..

and i dont know if its true but, picasa(or GPhotos) is getting a 6.3 GB upgrade? instead of 250 MB it will have a 6.3 GB of photo storage..

/pd [PersonRank 10]

what do you mean "Google Photos is too ... simple." ?

in today's world .."Less is more" and "simple =beautiful"!!

Google has this strong fixation on these concepts and yet they screwed up with naming conventions to align their folio vertically within a brand matrix.

Albeit , many services were acquired, but as they begin to round them together, its better to continue with sound business acumen on strategic product naming.

For the normal GMail following, they aren't like us, so they don't know what Picasa is, but Photos is obvious.

Google have added a few items to the GMail links section.
Take a look:

So will Writely be named Google Write now ?

Art-One [PersonRank 10]

Why not? It should be logical...

David Hetfield [PersonRank 10]

how about Google Word.. :/

Tony Ruscoe [PersonRank 10]

David, I seriously doubt they'd use the same name as Microsoft's word processing package (although it's not strictly a trademark, so they could if they wanted to). That would be foolish though. Google Writely would be fine...

They did keep the name "SketchUp," in Google SketchUp, so I think they'll keep "Writely" in some form or other, but "Google Picassa" just doesn't have the same ring to me as "Google Photos." (That does remind me of Yahoo Photos, which I just found out about. How come Yahoo doesn't combine that with Flickr?)

I just saw the links a moment ago, and I was coming here to check whether Blogoscoped had reported on the Gmail news (concerning Australia/New Zealand and the new navigation links). Hope to see it on the front page soon!

SketchUp is incredibly descriptive. They could say Google Sketch, but the up is what tells you it is 3D... Writely is a little ambiguous, but not bad. Picassa.... well that *might* tell you that it has to do with art.... but photos?

Hmmm.....

I also agree that writely should be in that service list and probably that soccer thing too.

I saw the Photo link this morning, but it's not there anymore!

I don't like Picasa Web Albums. It has an ugly interface. Why don't they make it nice like Flickr?

These links are pretty odd really. Since although they look like they are tabs when you click on them the link set is gone. For photos, spreadsheets, ig the links are not up yet. Why don't Google put up a whole feature at once?

I hate the Flickr interface and love the Web Albums interface. :)

I just saw the links in my Gmail (I was off the grid for 4 days) and all the links work for me. I like them!

As has been pointed out by others, I think the links should be available in all Google on line applications, not just Gmail.

With products that have recognition already, such as Picasa, the name should probably be left alone. Web Albums should be Google Web Albums, however, as it is a whole new product and I don't think it will confuse existing Picasa users.

Sketch Up is a great name, and is very descriptive. Writely is a tough one. There is not a huge user base yet, so it could be renamed when it publicly launches, but I have yet to see a better name. Though Google Word is accurate and even funny, I can't see that being used with MS already using the name.

and then it gives a link:

I noticed while logged into my Gmail the links in the top left corner that previously only had Gmail and Calendar now also list Spreedsheet and Photo as well. I dont think i have ever seen these other services listed there before. I also do not believe I have added any firefox extensions that would have added this functionality.

Can anyone else confirm?
