Well, everyone could have learned about this a few days ago if they had carefully read the Google Enterprise Blog at http://googleenterprise.blogspot.com/2006/08/building-better-app.html Watch this line which everybody missed:
"----Well, let me let you in a little secret and some big news. The little secret is that I've been using a "special" version of Gmail as my work e-mail client for a while now.-----"
And then a few sentences down: "----My inbox holds about 10 gigs of mail, and it's still as fast as when it was empty---"
There you go. Google revealed one of its secrets and nobody noticed. Well, I guess it's easier/more fun, to find these secrets by searching through Google's codes and so forth than just reading what Google says. :) |

Totally missed that. ;) However, Googler get 1TB of Gmail storage, ain't that special? |
NateDawg | 17 years ago # |
wow, I totally missed that. Wonder if the 10 GB is going to be a feature sooner than later for the masses? |

Stress tests on volume is a key infrastructure ballgame. This means it can scale within a silo'fied version. This just a start.. at the enterprise clould level, the average power user will need at about 160-240GB allocations..

NateDawg: You might be on to something.
Lycos.com now offers 3 GB for free and 5GB with no ads, unlimited size attachments, and POP access for $20/year. http://mail.lycos.com/lycos/Index.lycos
Walla.com (an major Israeli site offers 5 GB for free). bir NOTE: The advertise 3GB but I've been getting 5 GB for a few months. http://www.walla.com/
For the past couple of years Lycos Europe offers 10GB of email space for about (3.79 USD) a month. They will also register a domain for you. POP, IMAP too! http://secure.mail.lycos.co.uk/services/content/packs.jsp?id=2&targetcode=uk_jumppage_pricetag

I winder if the 10GB account has ads... |
Mrrix32 | 17 years ago # |
If they're Google text ads I wouldn't mind any way. I find them a lot less of a probblem than the massive picture ads. |
Art-One | 17 years ago # |
My walla.com status: 7M / 5000M 0% ;-) It's free... & I don't see a lot of ads. (Did I see any?) Basic interface & features, but it does work.
I can't say that from 30gigs.com (that makes me remember I should check that mailbox once again ;-).. |

Bear in mind that the Enterprise Blog post refers to there being 10GB of mail in the poster's inbox, rather than that 10GB is the absolute limit. If it isn't 10GB, what is it?
Perhaps for enterprise users capacity will be determined only by the fee. |

Photoactive, that's a good point. |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
I don't really understand the case, that's why I sent that to Ionut, Corsin, Haochi and Philipp. So, you pay "Flash Mail" for a Gmail account with 10 GB but who and who provides theses 10 GB? Flashmail and Google have a deal or ... ? really strange |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 17 years ago # |
Google provides the mail service Flash is just an ISP
|

Dunno. It seems a coincidence that five email addresses are mentioned, and 10GB, since you get 2GB per address for Gmail for your domain. I know it says one inbox holds 10GB but . . . It seems odd for Google to be partnering with a random Argentinian ISP for an exclusive service. |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 17 years ago # |
It says "powered by Google", the screenshots show Gmail's design with a red logo. They couldn't use 5 mail boxes x 2GB. |
TOMHTML | 17 years ago # |
So I don't understand how it works : Did Flash Mail call Google "hey Gmail Team, could you give us a 10-GB account please?" ? And except ads, what earn (win?) Google with that? |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
Just found their login page, pretty easy though, lol https://www.google.com/a/flash.com.ar/ServiceLogin?service=mail compare to mine, https://www.google.com/a/googlified.com/ServiceLogin?service=mail The email service is "exclusively" provided by Google, even the description is different. |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 17 years ago # |
Great find :) And how do they provide 10 GB? |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 17 years ago # |
"1 cuenta de 10 GB Y 4 adicionales de 2 GB"
And isn't that illegal to resell Gmail accounts? |
Haochi | 17 years ago # |
I guess they are having a deal with Google, otherwise they can't change to login page description. |
Sankar Anand | 17 years ago # |
Yes Hoachi they might have a a great deal! |
Dabvid | 17 years ago # |
I'm in Argentina and the ad is true, when you sign up for an internet connection with Ciudad Flash, they give you a 10GB email account. Yes, it may be odd for you that Google is doing this in Argentina but they are doing it. |
photoactive | 17 years ago # |
Amazing. Is there any explanation of what their partnership with Google is? |
cicchitti@gmail.com | 17 years ago # |
How to get more attachment files on gmail? |
cicchitti@gmail.com | 17 years ago # |
attachment size!!! |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
If that's really your email, it's really not a good idea to provide it in the open.
And about your question, I believe 10 MB is the strict limit but I remember reading a few have uploaded even 12 MB. |
Art-One | 17 years ago # |
I made an attachment of 11MB yesterday & it even went very smoothly (much better than before...). Was this a one time lucky shot? |
Rishabh | 17 years ago # |
Maybe Google silently increased the limit to see if people NEED the extra attachment size instead of just WANTING it. |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
Art, I remember seeing someone sent 12 MB too. |
