This isn't a web search, but I still find this shocking: "Results 1 – 24 of 24 for " ".(8.69 seconds)"
8.69 seconds is a long time for a Google search...

With 24 gadgets to search (the query matches all of them), how does this query take so long? |
Wait a minute – I just got 9.20 seconds! That is long! |
i got "Results 1 – 24 of 24 for " ".(5.55 seconds) " |
Results 1 – 2 of 2 for test.(11.10 seconds)
Don't they cache the results? |
That's strange. I've checked about 10-15 minutes ago and few times since than and all that time It worked very fast for me. The time every time is about 0.25 seconds. |
Looks like I'm the winner...
I get 0.09 --- championy! |
===>>"7.67 seconds. That’s roughly 2 months in Google years."
How do you assert this baseline ?? approx 4 seconds/month ? |
Pd, I was figuring that Google is so focused on result speeds, that a microsecond lag to deliver a page for them is what may be many seconds to another site... for example when Digg takes 7 seconds to load, that's not news, it's just (unfortunately) everyday life :) |
I am getting 6.99 seconds, and it is not only slow for that query!
When I search for test, I get:
Results 1 – 2 of 2 for test.(13.78 seconds)!
Obviously their gadget award submission search is acting like Yahoo!... |
I'm at about the 1/4 second mark consistently. Maybe they have less servers dedicated to this task (2?) and one of them is bogged down. So it is luck of the draw which one you get. With web search, with SOOOOOOOO many servers dedicated, chances are you would VERY rarely get a bad one even if there are 100 that are incredibly slow. (because queries are divided among so many, even if you hit a couple VERY slow ones chances are in total you would still not notice much difference) |
searching for "old" took me 12.97 seconds, ouch.

Results varies: 1st try: 6.10 seconds 2nt try: 4.17 seconds
But when using Firefox's Reload button the results are the following: 0.17 seconds 4.20 seconds and again: 6.33 seconds! |
