<< Google is working on a “major” overhaul of its Chrome browser user interface (UI). Among the options on the table is the elimination of the URL bar, which could be the most significant UI change to the web browser since its invention. Another feature that appears to be already signed off is the support of multiple user profiles that can be used in parallel. >>

as stupid as the day they killed the status bar (main cause I don't use Chrome as my main browser).
I don't trust Chrome to tell me if I'm on a phishing website or not. |
I would fully hope that this would be an optional change. I'm still one of those crazy people that types in web addresses directly instead of searching for them. |
This video is a perfect example of why address bar is important: http://vimeo.com/12003099

Another important proof: http://www.zorgloob.com/images2/chrome-url.html [NSFW] |
No, it won't be possible. The development of this feature has been discontinued.

Thank god its discontinued
Good one @ zorgloob |
I agree with Tom, Phishing was the first thing that came into my head when I saw this.
Apparently the site linked in the original post doesn't link to the sources because they are worried that people will plagiarise them :/
However "Not A Jackass" (in the comments) managed to find this [ http://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/group/chromium-dev/browse_thread/thread/65ddc41c58aca0aa] Dated the 18th Feb 2011. It seems to relate to Chromium OS, but I would guess it would flow down to Chrome eventually.
Hope they keep the address bar! |
