I love that phrase and am going to try to use it in everyday speech in English!

mattyway seems a little too excited about the change. Let's hope he's kidding.

re: the bag of rice expression; I've heard something very similar a couple times here in the states. an excellent expression!

i've never heard the bag of rice thing, but i've heard the rhetorical question "what does that have to do with the price of eggs?" used for the same meaning

Ah, German language is full of metaphors, in particular those relating to the human body! Take the following examples, all of which are basically phrases for "this annoys me":

- This steps on my nuts (das geht mir auf den Sack)
- This hits on my belly (das schlägt auf den Magen)
- I have a neck like this (ich hab sonen Hals)
- I have the mouth full (hab die Schnauze voll)
- I have a full nose (hab die Nase voll)

German metaphors are great! I love the way Germans say "lazyskin" where we would say "lazybones".

Another great expression is "I'll just have to swallow that frog" meaning "I'll just have to accept some particular inconvenience, because it's a means to an end.".

Here in Poland we use "I'll just have to swallow that frog" too :) And when someone talks off topic we ask "what does gingerbread have to do with windmill?"
