I found this social network of sorts on a new link from Google Video. It looks like it integrates into many of the products.

Nice find Ben! Looks very interesting.

I was just investigating this, but the Share button from Google Video sends me to a blank page.

Whoa. I think this might be the beginning of something quite exciting.

Ionut, can you see my shared stuff?

http://www.google.com/s2/sharing/stuff?user=116226932711437764309

When I click the "As everyone sees it" link, it says:

<< Currently, there is no shared stuff. >>

Reto Meier [PersonRank 10]

That's what I see for you too tony. Can you see mine?

Also, here's a rundown on what I've found / thoughts so far:

It'll be interesting to see how the Shared Stuff from People You Know page is integrated... At the moment the contact picker lets you email people to alert them to your page; but what mechanism is there for it to tell who's a Person You Know? The social network bit is currently hiding ...

Ionut Alex. Chitu [PersonRank 10]

[put at-character here]Tony:
Yes, there's a single shared item. All the profile pages are public.

Tony Ruscoe [PersonRank 10]

Ionut, that's odd because I shared two items and can see two items in my profile view.

TOMHTML [PersonRank 10]

It's a Del.ico.us-like, right?

it's a shame this service doesn't agregate shared items from google reader!
google services are great, but please mister goooogle just provide thight integration between your apps.

dpneal, it seems a little flaky for me at the moment.

Tony Ruscoe [PersonRank 10]

BTW, the "Choose Contacts" part of the email widget would be pretty useful for all those people who've been asking for that kind of functionality in Gmail – i.e. where you can select your contacts from a big list instead of relying on memory to type in their names and use the auto-complete feature.

I don't know what's the fuck but it's loooong. I click on the button, the popup appears, but it's long to load, it's even worse if I want to modify the comment...

<< Did I? Where? >>

Here:

<< When signed in to your Google Account, you can also view shared stuff from people you know, which seems to show any items that have been shared by any of your Gmail contacts. >>

But now i realize you meant when you're logged in to your Google account, you can also view shared stuff from people you know.

Did i get it right now Tony?

It's a shame there's currently no RSS feed or gadget for the shared stuff from people you know page

Tony Ruscoe [PersonRank 10]

Suresh, I got those same links when viewing Reto's profile.

TOMHTML [PersonRank 10]

I think there will be more things in the future with that "public profile"
http://www.google.com/s2/widgets/ProfileViewer

Suresh S [PersonRank 10]

javascript:addProfileEditor('peframe', "<<user id of someone other than you>>",options);

Reto Meier [PersonRank 10]

[put at-character here]TOMHTML: Did you notice that when you 'edit profile' there's a 'learn more' link that goes to a Maps server?

Looks like I was right about integrating shared maps!

My guess is this will form the basis for the user 'news feed' they were talking about in the Reader video. As photoactive says, there's still a bit missing – the bit where you choose who the 'people you know' are.

without signing in we can view the profile of tony.
<code>javascript:addProfileEditor('peframe', "116226932711437764310","");</code>

Tony Ruscoe [PersonRank 10]

Suresh, you can do that any way:

http://www.google.com/s2/sharing/stuff?user=116226932711437764309
http://www.google.com/s2/widgets/ProfileViewer?uid=116226932711437764309

(Oddly, I get a different number to the one you've got.)

Tony Ruscoe [PersonRank 10]

BTW, just found this link:

http://blogoscoped.com/forum/103641.html

"/s2" was added to the robots.txt file back in July.

And here's a strange error:

<< Could not find /com/google/ccc/sharing/frontendnull
Error 404 >>

[regarding no RSS feed or gadget for the "Shared Stuff from People You Know" page]

You´d say that an append of the url of the "Shared Stuff from People You Know" page with "&output=rss" would do the trick (like how it has been implemented on the "Your Shared Stuff" and "Most Popular Shared Stuff" pages. But no :-(

Further, the RSS feed for my "Your Shared Stuff" page doesn´t update.
Do any others see this behaviour ?

Update: And another release from Google means another security flaw. I’ve just emailed Google Security about the problem I discovered earlier and will report back whether they think it’s a serious problem or if they can confirm that it’s been fixed. (There’s no need to worry too much, this doesn’t allow people to gain access to your Google Account, but it could be used to maliciously mislead people.)

Don't know if anyone's seen but there's a comment on Reto's blog (by anonymous) suggesting it's based on a Firefox extension called Shareaholic: shareaholic.com

That seems to be true, inasmuch as Shareaholic uses the same icon for the toolbar...

Reto Meier [PersonRank 10]

The image both S2 and Shareaholic is using is a suggested 'standard' for 'sharing' (much like the orange RSS icon):

[put at-character here]Tony: what was the flaw?

Tony Ruscoe [PersonRank 10]

I'd rather not say just yet. It's nothing too bad but it's still a serious oversight on Google's part...

James Xuan [PersonRank 10]

It's kinda like digg the way you can see the most popular shared items. Cool!

peter huesken [PersonRank 1]

...if you:

- share a page via "Include: Article preview"
... then decide you don´t want the preview and...
- remove the article
- and share the same page via "Include: Just the link"
...then you´ll find yourself still stuck with the preview.

No amount of log out/log in, (forced) refreshes etc. could solve this for me.
Seems like a bug...

What should come next, along with the essential improved contact manager in Gmail: a thing whereby you can click from Gmail or from wherever else on one of your contacts (or "friends" or "people you know") and see their shared items, their address on a map, and whatever else – via a Page Creator value-added version of the shared items page – they have chosen to share with you. That's a social network, or a meta-social network (and I guess Google is going for the meta, as they should).

for some reason i can't drag it to my bookmark tool bar. and now that i'm spending a little bit of time trying to figure it out, it seems that i can't drag *anything* to this tool bar. weird. i usually only use the del.icio.us tool bar so i haven't noticed this issue before. anyone have a similar experience and/or solution? thanks!

I'm using FF too and trying to drag it to the Google Toolbar.
But nothing happens... :/

what i did was right click in the nav. bar and went to "customize"
with the "shared stuff" page in the background i was able to drag the link into the tool bar (with the customized window open)

David, the button is a bookmarklet so you can only drag it to the Bookmarks toolbar. There's no button for the Google Toolbar (yet?)

Haochi, I don't see anything special (Ubuntu, FF)

David Hetfield [PersonRank 10]

Next to the 5 stars, there's an envelope that says: Share.
Click it

Give it a try Tom:

TOMHTML [PersonRank 10]

Oh good pick, for me, and many others I presume, this frame is collapsed so we couldn't see it :)
Now, as Reto noticied, we could attend a integration in Google Maps soon.

Inferno [PersonRank 10]

I think the labels/tags and the description of the shared item is cross-referenced with the data in Google Bookmarks.

John Frost [PersonRank 0]

This would be a great feature if it actually worked. It would be even better if I could tie all my 'shared' items in on one meta-page.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox for Windows Xp. When I click the Email/Share button on the toolbar, it refuses to recognize that I'm logged in. After a few attempts, I can get that to work. But then when the popup loads, it is blank. You have to do a screen refresh (either a minimize or drag window off the screen to refresh) to just see the story in the window. Then you can carefully type in the box, but it you have to refresh manually again to see what you've typed.

Any word on when fixes for this might be coming?

Reto Meier [PersonRank 10]

[put at-character here]John: We're still waiting on word from Google that 'Shared Stuff' even exists! I imagine there will be some added functionality and improved stability when they actually launch it.

Philipp Lenssen [PersonRank 10]

Similar to TomHTML's problems mentioned above, I get "eternal loading" when the details pop up opens after I clicked the Email/ Share button. I can't enter anything meaningful because it's stalled, though I was able to click the "share" button after a while.

Jason Hunter [PersonRank 0]

I'm having the same problem mentioned above.. sometimes the bookmarklet will work fine, and other times the window pops up will just be blank.

Reto Meier [PersonRank 10]

I've noticed that when that happens, minimising, then restoring the window will update the screen. Then you click (or type) nothing seems to happen but min/restore and you can see that it's registered. Weird.

DPic [PersonRank 10]

I just noticed the email function works now. I don't think it was working before. When will it be 100% functional???

David Hetfield [PersonRank 10]

Tony I'm not impressed at all. The service does not work with Firefox (or it did not for me.) I had to change my security setting in IE to low and still with it set to low, it blocked several sites I was attempting to share.
