The webcast wouldn't work correctly using the default media player in Ubuntu. This is probably just me, but if not, here's the URL which you can play in VLC
mms://a1775.l3402457774.c34024.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/
1775/34024/v0001/reflector:57774

[added a new line, because the layout was broken ~ hebbet]

Wow – I just wanted to post exactly what Inferno did – "Thanks DPic!" – and it said "This has already been posted". That is SUCH a coincidence!

It seems that it will be Ubuntu compatible
http://src.chromium.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=chromiumos.git;a=commit;h=5209d2ae45693ff5b03b1939cd242971ae1914b5
"Workaround the fact that Ubuntu packages want to install
their own init script in /etc/init."

The current screen is kinda frustrating, as I am not sure whether the stream is correctly working... they could have added a loading animation or something.

Oh well... I assume chromeos will simply be a kiosk distribution built on top of ubuntu, but we will see.

If you can't watch the webcast, Matt Cutts is liveblogging it:

I wish Chrome was designed/built more like Uzbl, and ChromeOS used a microkernel. GNU HURD has the right idea...it could use the help of some smart guys like Google.

[put at-character here]Fabio if you could open your torrent client just for 10 minutes i'm stuck with 99% and there are no available peers.

Update: Added 3 screenshots to the post.

On another note, there's an interesting interchange at Reddit – the reply is by someone claiming to be from Google:

neptunes_beard: "So it has no desktop you can minimise to? I think I'd feel claustrophobic using it. Not saying it's rational, but...sometimes you just want some breathing space."

frenzon: "We (the Chrome UI team) are aware of this and are working on it – feeling cramped sucks.

FWIW, 'feel' is super important to us, and these are the things that we will lose sleep over for the next year."

Interesting that they use a tiling windows manager ...

I was interested enough in the concept of Chrome to give it a try...in a virtual machine of course :)
I posted a screen cast of Chrome OS on my site if anyone is interested in experiencing the OS first hand. You can find it here:
