It will look the same as the others. They're all variations on a theme. |

We've got an hour or so, and we're still debating whether to do the Independence Day logo this year or not.
A lot of our bread is being buttered by China now, and they hinted they may question our licenses again if we do this. Might give inspiration to protesters they say. Might also jeopardise us setting up shop in Iran, Cuba and N. Korea.
Besides, nobody really complained that we missed honoring America's fallen defenders on Memorial Day, and we're not really an "American company" anymore, so what's the deal about the independence of some country, or whomever gave their life defending it? We're "international" now. All hail the U.N. Do you like powder-blue flags?
Still, there's something nostalgic about Old Glory, fireworks, and maybe even freedom...
We'll let you know in about an hour.

TOMHTML | 18 years ago # |
Hey guy, I would like you help Is there mistakes in this sentence?
"Today is July 4th, the US national day (Independence Day). Happy Fourth of July to all our american readers!"
Thanks in advance |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Maybe write "American" in uppercase? Or maybe write "readers from the States" or something... |
TOMHTML | 18 years ago # |
Thanks a lot, Philipp |

OK, the USA rocks!
We thought it over some and proudly put our Independence Day logo up!
Sorry for missing the Memorial Day logo, a lot of people gave their lives to build and preserve freedom in the USA and for many other countries too--anyone remember WW-II? Freedom's been incredibly rare in world history so we'd better do all we can to preserve it and expand it, or the world of 2026 may look like some horror movie for everyone.
In fact, Sergey said he'd probably have been shot by the KGB or tortured in a Gulag (he's too independent-minded) if it weren't for America – the Soviet Empire collapsed in big part because of America's message that people CAN be free.
We'll yank down the UN flag and hoist the Red, White and Blue.
Now if we can find some way to get out of China without losing our shirts...
Happy Independence Day!

Cats for our independence day? And if you ask me.. I think the ask.com background is ugly. |
David Hetfield | 18 years ago # |
Yahoo!'s logo isnt better! its ugly..!(too) |
Carmen | 18 years ago # |
When I go to yahoo homepage, I see an animation of firworks and then above Yahoo, it says Happy 4th of July before it becomes the Liberty Logo.
I think the cats are cute. |
Caleb E | 18 years ago # |
The ask thing is really over the top. I can't really read the text below the search box since it's white and with my moniter resolution it falls almost on top of the burst in the center. and the background looks a little blurry. But it is a very striking effect.
Has MSN ever gotten in on the holiday decorating? I've never noticed it. |
J. McNair | 18 years ago # |
I think MSN should at least dress up Live.com in holiday colours. Live is the "new and cool" portal from Microsoft. It would have been sporting of them.

One reason why MSN brings up the rear. It lacks personality. Bland, bland, bland. |
NateDawg | 18 years ago # |
I wasn't to impressed with this years July 4th logos. I really don't get the cat's dancing part (ok, my wife thinks it's cute) and I really liked the American flag lettering of yester year, but o-well. Ask.com was over the top, but I have to give them credit for trying something unique. |

<< One reason why MSN brings up the rear. It lacks personality.
Maybe they don't have holiday specials just because they have personality. Everyone does it now. |

Sergey and Larry Wooow.
Christmas 2005, I received a greeting card from Google, CA. Guess what, the arabic language on that Greeting card was badly written (ex: Merry was like yrrem and translated by a software)
Sergey and Larry, respect and honour each nation's tradition and you are winners. Love you Guys. Greetings from my Son Google.
Well I think it is great to be independent and I do not think any KGB will be near by , not now nor in the future.
But, as Google is making everyone happy and respect every nation's beliefs or tradition, so no problem.
Everything has limits, and by beeing close to everyone, friendly but not friends you can win it all. Then you need to recruit one guy that he will be more Nationalistic for each nation and deliver for each nation their memorial's logo. |

I wonder if Sergey and Larry read this blog. Or at least Marissa Mayer. We always say nice things about her. |
Art-One | 18 years ago # |
On July 11th, it's the Flemish national day. Any means of Google motivating to celebrate this too? Any tips are welcome... ;-) |

MSN gets in on the page-skinning deal for holidays, but only for http://my.msn.com – my wife's homepage changed to a red, white, and blue theme for the duration yesterday. If youre not logged in, no "pretties". |
Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
> I wonder if Sergey and Larry read this > blog. Or at least Marissa Mayer.
Well, I'll ask Marissa, she actually goes through all of her emails :) |
Ionut Alex. Chitu | 18 years ago # |
Hello, Marissa.
My name is Philipp Lenssen and I have a blog about Google, Google Blogoscoped. It's a really good blog, I know some Googlers read it and find feedback for their products. I was wondering if you ever read it and, if you do, what do you think?

Philipp Lenssen | 18 years ago # |
Huh? No, my mail was a little different :)
Her answer is in: Yes, Marissa Mayer gets the Google Blogoscoped RSS feed in her Google Desktop sidebar. |
/pd | 18 years ago # |
I think a lot of industry leaders take this blog feeds. This blog has many eyes on it – fwiw to some of the folks that at least i know.
What most of them DON'T do is enage in forum conversations. |
