Looks like Yahoo! homepage... |

OMG ... when did Google become so .. messy .. Google China is going to far (in my view) .. we'll yet to see how this page works out. |
Colin Colehour | 16 years ago # |
What are most of the links on that page for? |
James Xuan | 16 years ago # |
I actually like it, more links, same clean effect. |
TOMHTML | 16 years ago # |
hp = home page ? google.cn/ig doesn't work there
pass your mouse over the links on the right, there are animations |
David Hetfield | 16 years ago # |
Cool! (The animations, not the home page)
All of them: http://www.google.cn/hp/f/smi5By9snFc/images/guge/animation.png |

A nicer way to look at this page: (For the most of us :P) http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.cn%2Fhp%3Fsp%3Dchina&langpair=zh%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8 |

BTW, Take a look at this bizarre image: http://www.google.cn/hp/f/cZLWPuUIUFQ/images/guge/tools.gif |
TOMHTML | 16 years ago # |
I can't believe how many external links there are :-o |

it's not my style, but remember that sites like this (with lots of links and ..stuff..) are really popular in asia |
TOMHTML | 16 years ago # |
It wasn't the same look last week! http://tech.163.com/07/1103/22/3SDKE077000915BF.html More like Google Korea home page. |

David, they're just using CSS sprites. A lot of modern websites use this approach to reduce the number of HTTP requests.

Got it. Thanks :) |

Slightly off-topic, but Apple also use it on their navigation. I've never tried it yet.

I prefer this homepage than the new one.
And just to make this clear, What's the difference between Google.cn and http://www.google.cn/hp?sp=china ?
Why did Google create this page? (after all, It's not a part of iGoogle) |
Philipp Lenssen | 16 years ago # |
How do Chinese users get to this URL? Google.cn itself still seems to show the old version, and also not offer a link to the alternative version... or is it geo-targeted?
Where did you find this Hexieshehui? |

http://google.cn/ig(anythinghere) returns different error page than a "normal" 404 page like: http://google.cn/ieasd/ |
Keith Chan | 16 years ago # |
Chinese users might be randomly redirected to the new page, just like other testing pages. But I really don't like the idea of having so many links. Also, swithing between different types of results (web to image) isn't using AJAX, rather, you would be redirected.
The auto-completion is really really nice though. :) |

What is it ??? when Google will launch a similar animated one for India ..?? Cheers, Kuntal [Signature URL removed – Tony] |

This is something that Chinese websites like sohu.com can learn from. Their is simply atrocious, and filled with so many irrelevant ads scattered like flies in a diner. This is what they should become, with better arranged ads (no pop-ups or pop-unders or floating balloons). |

I think many people are thinking from a US point of view. Chinese ppl seem to like cool effects and shiny stuff. |

I don't get it. Baidu is the leader in China and it has a very clean and Googley homepage (http://www.baidu.com). Why would Google's new homepage give better results? |
James Xuan | 16 years ago # |

Looking at the wayback machine, it gets nicer and nicer as times go on...(BTW it blogoscopeds logo modelled after TWB Machines? |

> it blogoscopeds logo modelled after TWB Machines?
That's coincidental, I guess the simpler the logo the more likely it looks like other logos... I won't claim that I've invented this style :) The font is Slack Casual btw. |
