Lol, amazing how hard it is, I almost put the search box above the title!

I use google every day but i rarely see the homepage.

So very true... I really can't remember when was the last time I saw it. Firefox's search box is ultraconvenient.

But at least I know that 'l' is green. ;-D

What you remember may not be there for long :-) Seems they are coming out with a new layout, where the tabs are to the left and the search box is at the top.

hmm, that's funny. I forgot the "Web Images Groups ..." too. I guess that's because (if I use the google home page instead of, e.g., a tool bar), I always do a regular search, then hit "Images" or whatever on the results page...

I make about 40 Google searches per day, but never visit the homepage, because I use the Firefox googlebar extension. So my memory of the links on the homepage is fuzzy. I wonder what data there is on the percentage of Google users who bypass the homepage.

Of people that do visit the homepage regularly, it's likely that many use Personalized, rather than Classic Home, so will have different layouts and degrees of complexity.

I either use the Google search field in Opera or I use the advanced search page (which is the page opera loads when opened). So I would have no idea what the google homepage looks like exactly. Typical bypass case I am.

Its vaguely similar to the fact that I can touch type but couldn't read out the keys to you. Familiarity makes use easy but you forget what it actually looks like, I could draw other sites I use less better than Google because I actually have to remember where the UI elements are.

I've noticed that MOST of you don't remember how Google logo looks like! :) It's pretty funny, isn't it? It's one of best known logos in the world, but nobody remembers which color goes where.

I propose you another experiment. Go to http://ludwik.trammer.pl/googlecolors.htm – those are Google logos with the same color combinations that you drew on your pictures. Than try to figure out which combination is the real one, without looking on the real Google logo.

"try to figure out which combination is the real one, without looking on the real Google logo."
Got it right looking at them.... it was the only one that didn't look just wrong to me.... but had I had to draw it, I doubt I would have gotten it right!
Sorry Mr Lenssen... didn't have the time nor motivation!

I added Cow's version to http://ludwik.trammer.pl/googlecolors.htm and now it looks like most people thinks that the first letter in Google logo is... red. That's strange...

I can always remember both G's are blue

Sandra [PersonRank 0]

Red looks sooooo wrong! There was only one logo that had the right feel to it. Very cool!

It's hard when it isn't in the right font :)

Looking at the different colored logos, I got it right – but I cheated a bit by seeing the boxed G in Firefox's search bar, and noticing that it was blue. If I hadn't, I might have picked one of the red ones.

I agree looking at the logos you immediately feel which color combination is right. I even knew the color combination I produced was wrong... but I didn't quite know why... :)

I did this with M&M's once...

I wonder why they picked the color order they did...
Here are some of the older color schemes:

http://web.archive.org/web/19990504132841/www.google.com/logos/google3.jpg

And the beta logo, where they decided on the color scheme they use now:
