"The default list is the only one that can’t be deleted, and it will also be the single one shared in your Gmail account or the iGoogle gadget. As far as I can tell, multiple lists are only available in the standalone app."

No, you can manage different task-lists on Gmail! There's a tiny meny at the bottom right hand corner on the Tasks window in Gmail, allowing to refresh, rename, delete, and add lists... They're also accessible via the iPhone/mobile version of the service.

Talk about making your application more compact.

You can also manage different lists in the iGoogle gadget. Click the icon in the bottom right that looks like a bulleted list.

BTW, this is the "goanna" service which was spotted back in September last year by Jérôme Flipo (incidentally, the new service is goanna_mobile):

http://blogoscoped.com/forum/140763.html

The "goanna" service is also available to Google Apps (but only for the google.com domain it would seem):

http://www.google.com/tdlist/a/google.com

And have you seen the warning when you try to use an unsupported browser?

<< That's a negative ghostrider, the pattern is full.

Whoa there Tiger – Tasks does not yet support your browser. So far, we only officially support Firefox 2, Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 7, and Safari 3. We are working on full support for Internet Explorer 6. You are welcome to try using Tasks now, but you run the risk of losing data since we have not finished testing Tasks with your browser. >>

[Thanks Quentin and Tony, I added a correction in the text in regards to managing multiple lists!]

It does seem to be missing the 'View Completed Tasks' option from the others, though :-/

How long does it take for google to develop a simple, usable task thing that can be integrated with the calendar and shown on gmail on the sidebar? Really, whatever they release a few weeks ago was extremely disappointing. They've been working on it for years, fgs!

Is it going to be another service without a future like Google Notebook & Co.?

Is a standalone app needed for Tasks only?

Google should connect Notebook with Tasks (and with bookmarks perhaps) and cover it under one service + create extension for it or add it to Toolbar

As a matter of fact, the Gmail Labs widget can also be loaded as a sort of standalone application from this URL: http://mail.google.com/tasks/ig

If you have an active session, it will act as expected. If not, it will redirect to a login screen, which then declares the service requesting authentication as goanna_mobile. I think that the interface in the /tdlist version is better, though, so good to know about it.

Still no undo ?!

I'm kind of surprised they don't have Chrome support for this service.

I, also, do not understand Google being so slow about developing such a simple tool. I think most of the people have already found replacements for this functionality (like adding the Toodledo thing to Calendar or creating a spreadsheet in Docs).

Hmm... are these tasks automatically imported into Gmail? Cause they're not appearing in my Mail for Domains account (same username)

For a standalone application, users expect more control, flexibility and presentation scheme.

I think it would be great to have columns of different lists in such single and wide page, especially for project assignment , team collaboration or progress contrast.

Perhaps someone would bring out a GM user script or so.

Chrome was released in September. This service was made available for Trusted Testers before then. That's probably why.

They're imported into Gmail Tasks but not your Google Apps Mail Tasks.

It's working on Chrome 2.0.168.0 (Developer Build 10689), and there's a mobile version :-)

Yes, it's offline now... I've added an update.

502 here now.

But after your tipoff this morning I entered a couple of tasks. You can trust me to test, Google. Doesn't that make me a Trusted Tester? Please?

now it redirects to :

http://www.google.com/tdlist/?pli=1

and gives:

Error 404

Google Tasks are back. GMail-Settings-Labs...enable it. Tasks entered this morning are still there.
Labs has some other new (to me) items including "Mark as Read" button, Multiple Inboxes and SMS to Chat contacts.

Sorry, didn't pay attention. Not standalone.

I would benefit so much from the mobile version of Tasks (standalone), hopefully it would sync with my Gmail and in the future Calendar. i'm a RememberTheMilk, but Tasks would be the icing on the cake for my Gmail activities.

Tasks alread exists in a mobile-version. http://mail.google.com/mail/help/tasks/

It also works as a widget if you have opera http://widgets.opera.com/widget/11982/

For those who want Google Tasks (standalone) now, you can bookmark "http://mail.google.com/tasks/ig?pli=1" in FireFox, then change the bookmark properties to load it via the sidebar, hence you get standalone version, and become a bit more productive.
